Day 1, November 7: Overnight Flight
Sicily, the largest of the Mediterranean islands, offers a wonderful moderate climate, spectacular landscapes, charming historic towns and hilltop villages, and some of the finest archaeological sites to be found in Europe. Enjoy this wonderful destination as your journey begins with an overnight flight.
Day 2, November 8: Arrive Palermo, Sicily
Today you will arrive in the northern coastal town of Palermo. Enjoy the remainder of your day at leisure. Tonight you will join with your fellow travelers for a welcome dinner. (D)

Day 3, November 9: Palermo – Monreale – Palermo
Get an in-depth look at beautiful Palermo with a cultural tour that highlights the squares of Quattro Canti, Piazza Pretoria, and Piazza Bellini. Note the exotic mixture of Moorish, Norman and Spanish Baroque styles that makes this city special. Visit the Palace of the Normans, La Martorana Church, and the Cathedral, which houses the Imperial crown of Constance of Aragon in its treasury. In the nearby town of Monreale, you will visit the 12th century cathedral with its dazzling interior of multicolored marbles, paintings, mosaics and cloisters. (B)

Day 4, November 10: Palermo – Erice – Segesta –Agrigento
Today you will travel to Erice that was known as a religious center. While in this ancient Phoenician and Greek city, you will visit the Castle of Venus built by the Normans. Next, you will visit Segesta where only the ruins remain. Visit the archeological site that includes the Temple and the Theatre before continuing to the historic town of Agrigento. Proceed to the Valley of the Temples for an up-close view of the temples of Hercules, Juno, Dioscuri, Vulcan and Olympian Zeus. (B, D)

Day 5, November 11: Agrigento - Piazza Armerina – Taormina
Travel to central Sicily and the gorgeous town of Piazza Armerina. Visit the Villa Casale to see the vast collection of ancient mosaics. Continue to Taormina, known for its beautiful monuments and gardens. (B, D)
Day 6, November 12: Taormina - Mt. Etna – Taormina
Today you visit Mt. Etna Volcano National Park to see the spectacular landscapes sculpted by nature. Return to Taormina to visit the Greek Theatre, Corso Umberto, and the public gardens. (B, D)
Day 7, November 13: Taormina
Enjoy a day of leisure in this enchanting town. You may want to take an optional tour to Syracusa was one of the principal cities of Magna Grecia (Greater Greece), which was so prestigious that it was considered to have rivaled Athens. (B, D)

Day 8, November 14: Taormina – Mainland, Vietri-Sul-Mare
Today you will depart Taromina and journey to Messina to board a ferry for a ride to the mainland. Travel the breathtaking Amalfi Coast, offering spectacular views of the ocean and hillside towns. Later, you will arrive in Vietri-Sul-Mare for the night. (B, D)

Day 9, November 15: Vietri-Sul-Mare – Pompeii – Rome
This morning see the excavated ruins of Pompeii at the foothills of Mt. Vesuvius. Highlights will include the Temples of Apollo and Jupiter and the Forum. Continue your journey to the “Eternal City” of Rome. (B, D)

Day 10, November 16: Rome
Enjoy a panoramic tour of Classical Rome featuring the Piazza Venezia, the Roman Forum, the Circus Maximus, the Colosseum, and the Arch of Constantine. Contemporary Rome is highlighted through the legendary Spanish Steps and the beautiful Trevi Fountain. (B)

Day 11, November 17: Rome - Vatican City - Papal Audience
This morning, visit Vatican City to attend the weekly papal audience and receive the blessing given by His Holiness, John Paul II. The remainder of the day is at leisure to explore on your own. (B)

Day 12, November 18: Rome - Vatican City
Visit St. Peter’s Basilica, built on the site where St. Peter was martyred. Known as the grandest of the world churches, St. Peter’s is unsurpassed in beauty. In the Vatican Museum, you will view such historical treasures as the Sistine Chapel and Michelangelo’s restored mural of the Last Judgment. In the afternoon, enjoy leisure time to worship and explore more of Vatican City. (B)

Day 13, November 19: Rome
Today is yours to spend at leisure, with a farewell dinner planned for the evening. Your tour manager will be available to assist you with options and personal plans. (B, D)
Day 14, November 20: Rome
Depart for Home: Transfer to Rome Airport for your return flight home with many wonderful memories of your Discover Sicily with Rome tour. (B)
