Saturday, September 28, Day 1: Arrive at Old Stapleton Airport Parking lot by 2:30pm, 3:15pm transfer to DIA airport via bus for British Airways Flight 2018 departs Denver at 6:01pm nonstop to London, and connecting to Lisbon. Dinner and breakfast served in flight.
Sunday, September 29, Day 2: LISBON - SANTAREM - FATIMA - Upon arrival in the Portuguese capital, we'll be greeted by our Spirit Tours tour escort. We start our tour with an orientation drive through Lisbon and visit of St. Anthony's of Padua birthplace. We continue via Santarem, where in the Church of the Holy Miracle we view the venerated relic of the Bleeding Host, to Fatima. (D)
Monday, September 30, Day 3: IN FATIMA - Mass at the Little Chapel of the Apparitions. Our guided morning visits include the Basilica, the site of Francisco's and Jacinta's graves; the hamlet of Aijustrel, where the children lived; and Valinhos, site of Our Lady's appearance after the children's return from prison. The afternoon is free for devotions and revisits. Follow the stations of the Via Sacra to the Chapel of Calvary, commanding a spectacular view of Fabma. And, perhaps a visit to the FatmaWax Museum, depicting the events of l9l7. Tonight we join pilgrims from the world over in a Candlelight Procession. (B,D)
Tuesday, October 1, Day 4: SALAMANCA - ALBA BE TORMES - We motor through the serene Portuguese countryside and cross into Spain on our way to the walled city of Salamanca. We stop at Plaza Major, considered the most grandiose in Spain, with its magnificent cathedral and the House of Shells, covered with scallop shells in honor of a pilgrimage to St. James in Santiago de Compostela. We continue to Albade Tormes. (B,D)
Wednesday, October 2, Day 5: ALBA DE TORMES - AVILA - MADRID - Mass at the Carmelite convent where the body of St. Teresa is preserved, we motor to Avila, a city encircled by high walls. The religious atmosphere here has changed little since the days of St. Teresa. Our visits include the cathedral, the monument marking her birthplace and her convent. On to Madrid. Later you may wish to relax over a meal and local wine at one of the numerous sidewalk cafe and gain insights into the Madrid way of life. (B)
Thursday, October 3, Day 6: MADRID - A sightseeing of the Spanish capital features a drive along acacia-lined broad boulevards, past Puerta del Sol, El Retiro Park and modern Plaza de Espana. We stop at the monumental Plaza Mayor and visit the Royal Palace, a treasure house of tapestries, porcelain clocks and other masterpieces. Remainder of the day is free in the Spanish capital.
Friday, October 4, Day 7: ZARAGOZA - LOURDES - We motor to Zaragoza where we pay homage to Our Lady of the Pilar, commemorating her apparition to St. James, the Apostle. We view the revered statue, adorned with precious jewels, the gifts of many kings. Later enjoy the spectacular mountain scenery of the Pyrenees along our way to Lourdes. Here at the Grotto of Massiabelle the Virgin Mary appeared to Bernadette. Tonight we join pilgrims from the world over in a candle light procession along Esplanade. (B,D)
Saturday, October 5, Day 8: LOURDES - After Mass at the famous Grotto, a guided walk to the home of St. Bernadette, the BA silica of the Rosary, the Upper Basilica dedicated to the Immaculate Conception and the Basilica of St. Pius X, the world's largest underground church. The remainder of the day is free to visit the Baths, where hundreds of miraculous cures have taken place, and to attend the Blessing of the Sick. (B,D)
Sunday, October 6, Day 9: FRENCH RIVIERA - NICE - Today we journey to the Mediterranean coast and continue across the Rhone River and along the French Riviera past Cannes to Nice. How about an after dinner stroll along elegant Boulevard Anglais. (B,D)
Monday, October 7, Day 10: MONACO - PISA - ASSISI - Leaving Nice we stop for a panoramic view of Monte Carlo with its beautiful parks, an ornate cathedral and the Palace, once the home of Princess Grace Kelley. We skirt the Italian Riviera past San Remo, to Genoa and stop at the hometown of Columbus, on our way to Pisa of Leaning Tower fame. Later we journey via the Chianti Wine region to Assisi. (B,D)
Tuesday, October 8, Day 11: ASSISI - ROME - After Mass at the crypt of St. Francis we explore the huge Basilica above. It contains many of his possessions and frescos depicting his life. In lower Assisi we enter St. Mary's of the Angels Basilica. Inside we see the Porziuncola, the thornless rosebush and the cave where St. Francis retired for prayers. Leaving Assisi, we travel past the spectacular hilltop towns of Umbria to Rome. (B)
Wednesday, October 9, Day 12: ROME - PAPAL AUDIENCE - DINNER & ILLUMINATED CITY DRIVE - After mass at ST. PeterŐs Basilica, largest church in the world, we attend an Audience & Blessing by the Holy Father ( if held). Later we visit the Basilicas of St. Mary Major & St. John Lateran, the Holy Stairs & St. Paul Outside the Walls, the fourth major basilica built on the site of the Apostles tomb. Tonight, we enjoy dinner with wine at a Roman Trattoria. Then, we drive past illuminated piazzas and fountains culminating with a visit of St. PeterŐs Square. (B, D)
Thursday, October 10, Day 13: ROME / VATICAN - This morning we explore the Vatican Museum and Michelangelo's celebrated 'The Last Judgment' in the Sistine Chapel. Later we drive along the ancient Appian Way past the Chapel of "Domine Quo Vadis?" to the Catacombs of San Sebastian where the early Christians buried their dead. On our return via Imperial Rome, we stop to view the Roman Forum and the Colosseum. Those who wish to explore central Rome may disembark at Piazza Venezia. Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon, the Spanish Steps and famous Via Condotti for shopping, are within easy walking distance. (B)
Friday, October 11, Day 14: IN ROME - A free day in Rome for revisits, browsing or perhaps an optional excursion. Depart Rome for London and overnight stay in London. (B) OR, BEGIN TOUR EXTENSION HERE, PLEASE SEE BELOW.
Saturday, October 12, Day 15: The morning is at your leisure in London. Nonstop return flight home to Denver at 1:00pm, arrives in Denver at 4:00pm.
Saturday, October 12, Day 1: MONTECASSINO - POMPEI - PADRE PIO: We depart Rome for the Abbey of Montecassino. Founded by St. Benedict in 529 ft has been completely restored after the 1944 bombings. After Mass at the crypt of St. Benedict we have a guided by Mt. Vesuvius to Pompei. Covered by the ashes of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 AD we today can see how an ancient Roman city looked and lived, The extensive forum, lavish temples, patrician villas and the business district reflect their flourishing past. Later we cross the 'boot' of Italy to San Giovanni Rotondo, the home of Blessed Padre Pio. (B,D)
Sunday, October 13, Day 2: PADRE PIO - MONTE SANTANGELO: After Mass at the sanctuary we attend a briefing by a resident priest about the life of Padre Pio. Afterwards we visit to Padre Pio's living quarters and his tomb. We then ascend Monte Sant'Angelo for a visit of the Grotto of the Archangel Michael, a celebrated shrine of old Christianity. Later you may wish to follow the Stations of the Cross behind Padre Pio's sanctuary. (B,D)
Monday, October 14, Day 3: LANCIANO - ROME: We journey north, along a spectacular Adriatic coastline, to Lanciano for Mass and devotions at the 8th-century Eucharistic Miracle. Later we journey past the spectacular Apennines and past Tivoli, where a Sybil prophesied the coming of Jesus Christ to Emperor Augustus, to Rome. (B)
