Uros Floating Islands

Tour Detailed Itinerary:

PLEASE NOTE: This tour is easily paced with moderate walking, but we will be traveling from sea level to elevations of approximately 14,000 ft. above sea level

Day 1, Sep. 9: Departure from the USA to Lima, Peruvian Capital City- Our adventure begins witha convenient late morning flight. We depart the USA with direct flights from Denver, including group check-in and airport assistance from Dave Duncan of Walkabout. We arrive in Lima Peru late in the evening of the same day, clear customs and meet your bilingual tour guide and escort, who will remain with you throughout the tour. Transfer to our Miraflores District hotel. Miraflores is known as an upscale restaurant, shopping and beach area of Lima.

Day 2, Sep. 10: Lima to Cusco & the Empire of the Incas with City Sights & Ruins - After breakfast, we transfer to the domestic airport for a scenic flight to Cuzco, heart of the Inca Civilization and Andes Mountains. Upon arrival you are met and transferred to the your hotel. This afternoon we tour Cusco, former capital of the Inca Empire . Experience the colonial architectural legacy visible in the Cathedral, Santo Domingo and the Plaza de Armas. Discover the important sacred Incan ruins of Sacsayhuaman Fortress and ceremony centers of Tambomachay, Qenco, Puka Pukara and the Inca Baths of Tambo Machay. This evening is free to enjoy the local cuisine and nightlife from our centrally located hotel. (B)

Day 3, Sep. 11: Pisas's Market. Andes Mountains, Ruins of Sacred Valley, Unique Hotel - Upon conclusion of breakfast, today includes a full day tour as we follow the Urubamba River through beautiful countryside where you will see the culture and lifestyle of the modern Andean people. Visit the Pisas's colorful market where you will have the opportunity to interact with the locals and gain insight into their day-to-day life. This afternoon, visit the spectacular Ollantaytambo ruins, the only Inca settlement that has been continually inhabited since its inception. Travelers are always struck by the unique terraced complex topped with an amazing set of huge carved stone panels. These are magnificent examples of the ancient Incan architecture and heritage. Accommodations at the unique Hotel Posada del Inca Yucay, This quiet and serine oasis of a hotel was once the grounds of a monastery circa 1830. (B/L)

Day 4, Sep. 12: Morning Deluxe Vistadome Train to Machu Picchu with Guided Tour - Upon completion of breakfast at the Posada Del Inca, we have a special start to a special day. First, board our morning train with Vistadome seating as we view the spectacular scenery of the Andes Mountains and ascend to the "Lost City of the Incas" known as Machu Picchu. Recently named one of the new seven wonders of the world, Machu Picchu was hidden by mountains and semi-tropical jungle for centuries. We will explore the different sections of the sight and learn about the history of the most fascinating site of the Americas. It is certainly one of the most impressive sights of the ancient South American Culture, and we present this jewel hassle free with breakfast, lunch dinner, and fully guided tour included throughout this special day. Our day ends with a relaxing premier hotel stay nearest to the park entrance. (B/L/D)

Day 5, Sep. 13: Machu Picchu at Leisure, Scenic Return to Cusco - After and included breakfast, today is your day to leisurely explore the archaeological site on your own, or hike part of the Inca Trail to Inti Punku for a panoramic view of Machu Picchu, or continue to Wiñay Wayna another interesting archaeological site. Late this afternoon, we enjoy the scenery as we return to the former capital of the Incas, Cusco and settle into our centrally located hotel (B)

Day 6, Sep. 14: Cusco, Highland Plateau Drive, Church of San Pedro, Lake Titicaca Stay - After Breakfast we travel by deluxe bus to the lakeside town of Puno. En route, enjoy spectacular views of the dramatic highland plateau and visit the town of Andahuaylillas, known for its beautifully adorned Church of San Pedro. Upon arrival in Puno we enjoy the views of Lake Titicaca  from our lakeview hotel. (B/L)

Day 7, Sep. 15: Puno, Lake Titicaca, Taquile & Uros Floating Islands Cruise - Today we visit Lake Titicaca, the world's highest navigable lake, and the Uros floating islands. Take a motor-boat trip to some of the more unique islands of Lake Titicaca, starting with Taquile Island, inhabited by Quechua-speaking natives who live in a collectivist society based on ancient Inca principles. After a box lunch, proceed to the utterly fascinating Uros Islands. These islands are completely man-made structures, and their inhabitants, the Uros, continue to maintain them as they have since pre-Columbian times, using totora reeds from the lake to build not only the islands, but also their houses and watchtowers. This evening is at your leisure to enjoy the hotel and lakefront surroundings. (B/L)

Day 8, Sep. 16: Puno, Lake Titicaca, Sillustani Burial Ground & Flight to Lima - Breakfast is included at the hotel prior to a tour of Sillustani, an ancient burial ground on the shores of Lake Titicaca. We then continue to the airport and our domestic flight back to Lima. Leisure time is provided upon check-in at our hotel with evening options available. (B)

Day 9, Sep. 17: Lima, City of Kings Tour, Goldsmith's Presentation - Today we tour the capital city and former center of The Spanish territories in South America, known at the 'City of the Kings'. See 2000 years of indigenous and colonial heritage firsthand on this tour of Peru's capital city. Visit Lima's historical center, including Plaza Mayor, City Hall, the Cathedral and the Archbishop's Palace. The San Francisco Convent, circa 1538, presents a giant painting of the last supper and catacombs. Afterward, visit Casa Luna, where you will be welcomed into the homes of craftsmen, giving you the opportunity to view a collection of unique Nativity scenes. Lastly, enjoy a chance to learn about fine Peruvian craftsmanship in the workshop of one of Lima's top goldsmiths. ( B)

Day 10, Sep. 18: Lima at Leisure, Evening Flight, or Amazing Amazon Extension - Today after breakfast, is your last chance to shop and explore the Lima area. Early this evening we have a farewell dinner planned before we transfer to the Lima International Airport and our late night return flight to the U.S.

Day 11, Sep. 19: Arrival in USA - Today we arrive back in the USA with a direct flight to Denver. We will arrive home in Denver around mid-day for an easy trek home.
